Photo marathon

So today I took part in Varberg's photo marathon, and it was as fun as last year.
For anyone reading, wondering what a photo marathon is - you get a number of themes and you need to take one photo for every theme, all within a set time limit. This time it was five themes, in three hours.
I found it quite tricky today, the themes were rather difficult, but at the same time it was real good fun, just as it has been the other times I have taken part in photo competitions.

I chose to use the monochrome filter on my camera on all photos, just because I thought it suited the themes quite well.

So, here's my photos

Theme: Exercise

Theme: Portrait

Theme: Closeness

Theme: Conversation

Theme: Rest

Until next time!

Shooting dogs - in a non killing way...

I have been wanting to shoot dogs (i.e. taking photos of course...) for a very long time. Finally a couple of days ago, I got to do my first ever photoshoot with a dog for a model! A very beautiful Staffordshire Bullterrier (please do correct me if I'm wrong by the way, but at least I think that's what he is....) called Tyson!

I could not have asked for better weather either, it was a clear day, bright blue skies and sunshine - stunning day quite simply! So we went down to the beach and had some fun, and here's the result of our day.

I have already posted the best pic from the days shoot in my last entry, check it out if you haven't already!

Until next time!

"Together" - in three different ways

As I was catching up on my own blog, I was also catching up on the photography challenge blog I am following - Fototriss. Every week there is a theme, and you are supposed to interpret this theme with three different photos, and put them up on your own blog. As it happens, this weeks theme was one that really caught my attention - "Together". The three photos I've chosen, shows three different takes on "together" - friendship, marriage and companionship

First photo of my choice for this theme, has to be one of my daughter! The other girl in the photo is the daughter of a good friend of mine. He's also a very good photographer and he is teaching me a lot! I thought the two girls looked so cute where they were sat picking flowers!

Second photo is from my dear friends' wedding last summer. Together until death do us part!

Third, and last photo, pictures an incredibly beautiful scene, and it's probably the best photo I have taken so far. The love, understanding and companionship between a human and a dog!

Unfortunately this photo comes up slightly different than what I have saved on my computer, and I don't have enough computerskills to know why or how to change it. It is supposed to be just the silhouettes...I am gutted really....!

Comeback with a new camera

So, I haven't kept this blog up at all, but then again, I haven't been out taking photos a lot either. No point in updating a photography blog without photos is there... !

So anyway, I have been wanting to buy a new camera for ages, but haven't had the money to do so, and also I didn't have a clue about what to get. My first camera was a Sony a200, and it has served me well. But along the way, I have been wanting to get someting a bit more modern, and a little bit more advanced. So after thinking long and hard, and changing my mind several times, I opted for a Canon 600D, which I am so far very happy with. Easy enough to get me started straight away, but also shedloads of more functions.
I have also wanted to get another couple of lenses, as is kind of natural once your photographing skills grow. So with my new camera, I got myself a nice 50mm F1.8 lens, which I believe is going to become my new best friend...

Enough of the talking, here's some pics!

Sometimes you kind of fail completely when taking a picture, but the result comes out pretty cool anyway!

Until next time (hopefully not as long this time... )

Serenity

Serenity. Calmness. Stillness. Tranquility.
That's the theme for this weeks Fototriss. For me it's all about nature, the skies and water. Here's my tranquil triss.

Back on track with Fototriss!

I haven't participated in the last few Fototriss challenges, one due to not really having anything to shoot on that particular theme, and another one due to being away.
But anyway, this week I'm back on track, and the theme is "Lovely Autumn".

I was experimenting with shutter speed when I was shooting the candles, and I think this one turned out really nice. I used the self timer, 2 sec exposure time, and softly blew on the flames to create some movement in the photo.
Lighting candles makes the world a brighter Place
I've been wanting to play around with water and short exposure time for a long time, and today I managed to capture a few raindrops. Still have a long way to go with these kind of photos, but it was really good fun, and I really got to challenge myself. Had to turn ISO up to 800 to get any kind of ok exposure, and I don't even think that was enough... Hence a lot of noise in this photo, but in b/w I think it gives it a bit of character.

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head....

I love autumn and the produce it gives. Apples, pears, plums - not to mention all the fabulous root vegetables. Cooking in autumn is fantastic....! The apples are lying on top of my sofa table, which is really great for reflecting things...

Living life in monochrome - cuz sometimes it's all black or white

Somebody once said that everybody should become a photographer, because it makes you look at the world with different eyes. And that is so true. One of my absolut favourite things to photograph, is plain, everyday stuff you see everywhere. Something completely ordinary, but all of a sudden you see the beauty in the ordinary, and it becomes extraordinary!

And lots of times when I manage to catch a glimpse of that extraordinary, I can picture the finished photo in black and white. So here's some b/w photos...
